Turkey is bordered by eight countries and has a coastline on the Mediterranean, the Black Sea and the Aegean. As a result, its magnificent coastline offers a wide range of water sports, while its rolling hills and vast, open spaces attract mountain bikers and hikers all year round.
An Essential Travel insurance policy, can cover you for over 100 sports as standard at no extra cost, providing that you are taking part in a non-professional capacity. Do I need to declare a pre-existing medical condition for travel to Turkey?
It is very important that you declare a pre-existing medical condition to us when you take out an insurance policy for Turkey. Failure to declare a medical condition which you later claim on could invalidate your entire policy. If you are unsure if your condition is covered, simply follow our online medical screening process when you get to our booking page.
Pre-existing medical conditions are those that existed before an insurance policy was taken out. Any disease or illness for which you have ever received medication, advice or treatment or experienced symptoms for.
How many people can be included on a policy?
You can add up to as many as 8 people to a single insurance policy with Essential. You can select the number of people you wish to cover at the start of your quote.
Do I need a visa to visit Turkey?
British Nationals need a visa to travel to Turkey (except for cruise ship passengers with 'British Citizen' passports entering the country for a day trip, remaining in the port of embarkation and returning to the ship the same day). If you are a visiting tourist to Turkey or on business, you will need to buy an e-Visa online before you travel. Only use the official e-Visa website. Avoid unauthorised websites as they may charge an additional fee.
If you don't have an e-Visa you can still buy a visa on arrival for £20 in cash, although the visa on arrival service is due to be phased out*.
Buying an e-Visa before you travel will avoid possible problems or delays at the Turkish border, or when boarding your flight in the UK. See Entry requirements.
*Correct as of November 2019.

It may be best to buy travel insurance to Turkey as soon as you have booked any accommodation and transport to ensure you benefit from immediate cancellation protection. Our cancellation and curtailment policy can cover events such as the death, bodily injury or serious illness to you, a travelling companion and close relatives. For a full breakdown of what is covered, please read our Policy Guide.
