Pre-existing conditions are medical conditions that existed before an insurance policy was taken out. Any disease or illness for which you have ever received medication, advice, treatment or experienced symptoms for could be classed as a pre-existing condition.
It is very important that you declare any medical conditions, either using our online medical screening, or by calling our customer services. Failure to declare any medical conditions may invalidate your entire policy.
When you declare a medical condition it is likely that you will be taken through our medical screening process. You may be asked to answer some in-depth questions and required to disclose some personal details on your condition. While this process may seem long, it is vital for us to build a comprehensive picture of your condition in order to tailor your policy specifically to your needs.
Diabetes is very common in the UK but it shouldn't put you off taking a well earned holiday! We can provide travel insurance for diabetics, at a time where important things such as diet and body clocks may alter from the norm. You will be guided through our online medical screening to find a personalised level of cover to suit your trip.

The definition of pre-existing medical conditions will vary from insurer to insurer, but largely they are defined as conditions that exist before an insurance policy was taken out. Any disease or illness for which you have ever received advice, treatment or experienced symptoms can be classed as a pre-existing medical condition. To ensure you screen correctly, make sure to be as detailed as possible in your answers when getting a quote.
Travel insurance with pre-existing medical cover is designed so that if you do fall ill from your condition while away from home you can be covered. Health care costs, repatriation and emergency transportation can cost thousands of pounds, especially abroad, so taking out cover to protect your health and your wallet will give you peace of mind should anything happen.
When you declare a medical condition it is likely you will be taken through our medical screening process. You may be asked to answer some in-depth questions and required to disclose some personal details on your condition. No. We will need to know the names of your medical conditions and any treatment you are having, have had or have scheduled, but not the names of your medication.
You now cannot exclude a medical condition from your policy. Once a condition or any aspect of your medical history has been declared, it forms your overall insurance policy.
Yes. As you make your way through the booking process you will be given the option to add winter sports to your insurance policy. We can provide cover for 26 winter sports (below) in the same quote, including skiing and snowboarding, which will provide a maximum of 17 days cover for those aged 74 years old.
It is important to remember that it is compulsory to wear a helmet while participating in these activities in order to be fully covered by our winter sports travel insurance policies.
If you add winter sports cover to your travel insurance policy, you are automatically covered for skiing off piste (skiing outside the boundaries of the prepared piste and marked runs, and beyond the area controlled by the ski patrol) provided you are accompanied by a qualified, resort-approved guide or instructor. If you plan to ski without a guide, you need to select Grade 4 sports cover and pay the additional premium, but please note you will not be covered for any reckless behaviour or for skiing in restricted areas.
Winter Sports covered in the same quote:
Essential Travel covers 110 sports as standard, at no extra cost. However if you would like to take part in more adventurous activities we provide hazardous activity cover that can be added as you make your way through the booking process.
These activities are graded 1 to 4 depending on the level of risk they pose to you. Grade 1 activities are considered low risk and will be covered on any Essential Travel Insurance policy at no extra charge, but Grades 2, 3 and 4 activities will add an additional charge to your premium. After selecting your level of cover you will be prompted to add any hazardous activities you wish to participate in while on holiday.
If you are taking a golfing holiday, we advise that you take our Golf Travel Insurance to benefit from specialised equipment and green-fee cover.
Where you are travelling in the world may have a bearing on the premium you pay to cover your medical conditions. Destinations such as North America and the Caribbean have some of the most expensive health care services in the world and travel to these destinations can have a bearing on your premium depending on your condition.
Please contact us to upgrade your policy to include additional winter sports cover, Superior cover, additional grades of sports cover or increase the geographical limits of your policy, (eg. Upgrade from Europe to Worldwide cover).
Please note: We are unable to downgrade your policy.

If you wish to cancel your policy during the cooling off period, please contact us to cancel. Outside of the 14 days' cooling off period, please contact customer services.
