Cancellation, curtailment, loss of facilities, missed departures and money can all be covered with an Essential Travel insurance policy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Find commonly asked questions about Greece travel insurance by clicking below.
What type of travel insurance policies are available for Greece?
As with all our policies you have the choice of three different types of trip:
A single trip policy can cover a UK resident aged up to 74 years old for 87 days continuous travel.
For those aged over 74, please visit our specialist over 74's travel insurance page.
Annual Multi Trip
If you plan on making more than two trips within the next 365 days, and not just to Greece, it may be best to compare quotes with our annual multi-trip policy. You can switch between prices for a single and annual multi-trip policy when you receive your quote, to decide which premium works out better value for you.
Our backpacker travel insurance is valid for up to 2 years continual cover and includes working and volunteering abroad. This is one of the most popular choices for those travelling on a round the world trip.
What activities and sports are covered with my insurance for Greece?
An Essential Travel insurance policy, can cover you for over 100 sports as standard at no extra cost, providing that you are taking part in a non-professional capacity. For the more adventurous travellers, you will be able to add more risqué sports and activities as you make your way through the booking process.
All sports and activities are assigned a sports grade that corresponds to the level of risk involved. The more extreme the sport, the higher the grade you will need.
As a guide, mentioned below is the type of activity you can expect from each sports grade:
- Sports Grade 1 - Activities like cycling, jet-skiing and kayaking don't require extra cover. We cover 110 sports at no extra cost.
- Sports Grade 2 - Activities such as bungee jumping, safari and motorcycling (and more) require extra sports cover to be added to your policy.
- Sports Grade 3 - Activities like paragliding and tandem sky diving require extra sports cover to be added to your policy.
- Sports Grade 4 - High risk activities such as canyoning and rock climbing require the highest level of sports cover.
Do I need to declare a pre-existing medical condition?
It is very important that you declare a pre-existing medical condition to us when you take out an insurance policy for Greece. Failure to declare a medical condition which you later claim on could invalidate your entire policy. If you are unsure if your condition is covered, simply follow our online medical screening process.
What is a pre-existing medical condition?
Pre-existing medical conditions are those that existed before an insurance policy was taken out. Any disease or illness for which you have ever received medication, advice or treatment or experienced symptoms for.
How many people can be included on a policy?
As with all our policies, you can take out an individual, couples, family and group travel insurance policies for up to as many as 8 people. You can select the number of people you wish to cover at the start of your quote.
What is health care like in Greece?
The Greek National Health system has a reciprocal health care agreement with the British National Health Service and you can use your EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) while there. However, you should make sure that you have adequate travel insurance and accessible funds to cover the cost of any medical treatment and repatriation. The EHIC, nor the UK government will no cover loss of luggage, cancellations among many other things. Health care on the mainland is generally good but may be limited on the islands.
To ensure you are fully covered for medical treatment, no matter the severity, it is important to buy comprehensive travel insurance to cover your trip.
When should I buy travel insurance?
We advise that you buy your Greek travel insurance as soon as you have booked any accommodation and transport to ensure you benefit from immediate cancellation protection. Our cancellation and curtailment policy can cover events such as the death, bodily injury or serious illness to you, a travelling companion and close relatives. For a full breakdown of what is covered, please read our Policy Guide.
When is the best time to visit Greece?
The best time to travel to Greece is spring and early summer from around mid-April to mid-June, or alternatively in autumn from September to mid-October. During these times you will avoid the summer high season with its inflated prices, hoards of holidaymakers and +40°C (100°F) heat. In spring you will find an abundance of beautiful wild flowers and cooler seas, while in autumn, you will find warmer seas but fewer boats and flights.
Will I need extra cover for sports and hazardous activities?
Our travel insurance covers over 100 sports and activities as standard on all policy levels, but for the more adventurous traveller we can provide hazardous activity cover too. After selecting your policy you will then be given the option to add additional activities and sports.
