Arsenal Take On Braga In Portugal - Advice And Information For Football Fans

Summary: Arsenal will play Braga in a UEFA Champions League match on 23 November at Estádio Municipal de Braga, Portugal with kick off at 19:45. A 24 hour general strike on 24 November may cause delays for those travelling in Portugal after the match.
Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) Advice:
Passport and travel documents:
- Ensure that your passport is valid for the entire duration of your visit. However, a visa will not be necessary when entering Portugal
- Ensure you take out travel insurance and obtain a European Health Insurance Card. This could save you money should you run into any trouble, even if you are only staying for one night
- Make absolutely certain that you keep your travel documents in the hotel safe, as there have been reports of thefts in hotel rooms
- Keep some identification handy, as there is a legal requirement for you to produce it should it be requested by the police or judicial authorities
- Carry your passport to use as identification if you intend driving

At the match:
- The following objects will not be permitted in the stadium: video cameras, drums, cans, fireworks, alcohol, bottle and sharp objects (including umbrellas), coins and lighters
- Flags with poles over a meter (100cm) will be prohibited from the stadium
- Ticket checks and searches will be done by stewards and/or the police upon entry, so you should be at the stadium as early as possible.
- Breathalyzer tests may be conducted if a person appears intoxicated and they may be refused entry
- Arsenal fans may be held back for up to half an hour after the end of the match, so be prepared for delays when leaving the stadium
Expected strike action:
Portugal's largest unions, such as those representing air traffic controllers, baggage handlers and aircraft maintenance staff, warn that their members will be participating in a 24 hour general strike after the match.
