White Water Rafting: What You Need To Know
Each river or run has its own classification according to the International Scale of River Difficulty. Lower scales (1-3) are deemed beginners to intermediate whereas the higher grades 4-5 are more difficult and require experience as well as concentration. Make sure you are adequately covered for the rafting you will be doing.
Beginners (Class 1-3) white water rafting is covered under our Grade 1 Sports cover for free.
What's more, there are a host of other sporting activities covered when you take out sports insurance for white and black water rafting. In addition to this, we offer up to £1,000 for Sports Equipment in transit.
Black Water Rafting: What You Need To Know
We also offer free cover for black water rafting. This type of rafting is done in underground rivers or in caves and is especially popular in New Zealand. See the cover levels below:

What Are The Risks?
Wild waters and rapids present an increasing danger. Some of the most common injuries associated with the sport include:
- Cuts, bruising and lacerations from rubbing against the rocks and riverbed
- Chronic muscular pain in the wrist, arm shoulder or back due to muscle overuse
- Tendinitis (tendon inflammation) as a result of repetitive paddling movements
- Infections from contaminated water
- And in more serious cases, dislocations and fractures as a result of collisions
We therefore DO NOT cover the following persons as they would present a greater risk for injury:
- Young children
- Pregnant women
- Elderly persons
- Persons suffering from severe back, neck or shoulder problems
- Persons that have previously suffered a severe injury
