Another important thing to be aware of before travelling to US is the difference in legal age of drinking (21 years of age) and legal alcohol limit, which is lower than the UK and differs from state to state. Travel insurance does not cover you for alcohol-related accidents (on or off the road), so be sure to drink responsibly.

If you're planning on hiring a car, there are a few car hire restrictions you should heed. For example, some car companies don't allow their cars to be driven between states; so, if you plan on taking a road trip or travelling through the US by car, make sure you pick a rental car company that doesn't have these restrictions.

Remember: No driver under the age of 21 is allowed to hire a car, while those between 21 and 25 often need to pay a substantial extra charge.
