Why take out European Travel Insurance?
With low-cost airlines flying hundreds of routes to the continent each day, a holiday to Europe is easier than ever. But whether you travel by coach, train, ferry or plane, you will want to ensure that you have comprehensive travel insurance should you run into any problems before or during your holiday. Our policies can cover you for personal injury, medical emergencies, cancellation and much more. What is more, you can easily add holiday extras to your policy to ensure you are covered for any pre-existing medical condition, extreme sports, cruises, business trips and weddings
Cancellation and curtailment
The cost of some flights and accommodation should be reason enough to buy travel insurance with cancellation cover! If you are forced to cancel your trip before it begins or cut it short for reasons beyond your control, our selected travel insurance policies can help you recover the costs for unused travel, accommodation and other pre-paid expenses and arrangements.
Missed or delayed departures
On selected policies you can claim up to £1,000 per person if you miss your train, ferry or flight due to circumstances beyond your control, such as industrial action, adverse weather conditions and closure of airspace.
Cover for baggage and belongings
No matter where you travel you are always at risk of losing, damaging or having your baggage and belongings stolen. With our European Travel Insurance you can cover your baggage and belongings for up to £2,000.
Sports and hazardous activities
A holiday in Europe can be a great time to relax and unwind but if you're looking to do something a bit more adventurous like skiing or mountain biking you will need to add travel insurance for extreme sports. At Essential Travel you will automatically be covered for over 100 sports and activities as standard, even on our cheapest travel insurance policy. However, if you fancy doing something slightly more adventurous you will have the option to add any hazardous sport or activity as you make your way through the booking process.
Travel Insurance for Medical Conditions
A pre-existing medical condition shouldn't get in the way of your holiday, that is why we have partnered with Latitude Travel Insurance to provide comprehensive travel insurance for those who may be turned down by other insurers. As you make your way through the booking process you will be asked to declare any medical condition via our discreet and confidential, online screening process.
European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)
The European Health Insurance Card (formally the E111) can be used in EU countries to provide free or reduced cost medical treatment.
- It is advisable to take out Europe holiday insurance before you travel since EHIC can be used solely for medical cover in state run hospitals. Access to state run hospitals may not be extensive at times
- The EHIC does not cover the cost of any treatments in private medical centres which can cause problems as some resorts call private ambulances and you will get taken to a private clinic
- The EHIC also does not include repatriation or cover you against cancellation or curtailment of your holiday, baggage loss, legal expenses etc
