EHIC Medical Insurance and Holiday Insurance
The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) can be used in EU countries to provide free or reduced cost medical treatment.
- It is advisable to take out Europe holiday insurance before you travel since EHIC can be used solely for medical cover in state run hospitals. Access to state run hospitals may not be extensive at times
- The EHIC does not cover the cost of any treatments in private medical centres which can cause problems as some resorts call private ambulances and you will get taken to a private clinic
- The EHIC also does not include repatriation or cover you against cancellation or curtailment of your holiday, baggage loss, legal expenses etc

5 Easy Steps to Book Online
Booking online is quick and easy, even for first timers. All you need to do is:
Add Extra Cover
You can customise your policy further with pre-existing medical condition cover, sports and a number of other specialist add-ons.
Do You Need to Declare a Medical Condition?
If you have a pre-existing medical condition it’s vital that you declare it or you could invalidate your entire policy. Insurers don’t like to think that you’ve hidden things from them and you may be surprised to find out that many common medical conditions such as allergies can be added without any additional cost. What’s more, you even have the option to declare a condition but then exclude it from your policy. What this means is that you’ve told your insurer about your condition but decided not to cover it, so you will be covered medically for anything unrelated to that condition.
Do You Need Extra Sports or Specialist Cover?
A decent policy will include cover for many sporty or adventure activities as standard. However the more adventurous or dangerous the activity, like winter sports, the more likely it is that you will need to purchase additional sports insurance. You can customise your policy further a number of other specialist add-ons.
If you want to play sport on holiday, make sure you do so safely by adding the correct sports grade to your policy.
100+ sports are covered at no extra cost on our policies!
By adding Winter Sports to your Single, Annual or Backpacker policy you can take part in over 26 winter sports and be covered for:

Brilliant once you managed to get through to them.
I would recommend the company. The staff were friendly and well informed. The only down side was that I was waiting for around an hour for a member of the team to answer my call.

You must try and book with Essential Travel as I had so much help from Lorraine. She talked me through all I had to do on line as I am not computer literate as well as finding the trip I was looking for.
