More On Camel / Elephant Riding Travel Insurance

Camel &elephant riding is the ultimate way to explore an exotic country. It offers an unconventional way to get closer to nature and enjoy the beauty of the landscape from a panoramic view.

Although it's relatively safe, as with all outdoor activities, camel / elephant riding does not come without its fair share of risks. Thus, we at Essential Travel strongly recommend that you secure adequate travel insurance when engaging in this activity abroad.

What You Need To Know

Camel riding is a great way to explore the desert sands of Qatar, while elephant riding is a popular alternative when going on African safari. Nevertheless, both activities carry a certain degree of risk.

Venturing across rivers and trekking through dense forests makes you vulnerable to insect bites, which can carry diseases like malaria and yellow fever. Although generally treatable, such conditions can be expensive to treat abroad.

Falling whilst boarding or dismounting the animal is another common occurrence, which may result in: bruising, scratches, sprains and, in more serious cases, fractures and severe concussion. Other conditions associated with the activity may also include: heat stroke, dehydration, sunburn and fatigue - all of which could set you back a few hundred pounds.

Safety Tips

Camel / elephant riding is covered as a Grade 2 insurance risk, as it is considered a relatively safe tourist activity. Still, we at Essential Travel encourage all persons participating in this activity to purchase adequate travel insurance so that you can fully enjoy the ride and your holiday worry-free.

However, to avoid any accidents we strongly recommend the following safety tips as an added precautionary measure:

  • Sun Protection: Make sure you wear a hat, sun-glasses and a long-sleeve top at all times and apply sunscreen regularly
  • Keep Hydrated: Drink water before, during and after the ride
  • Contact: Make sure you carry a mobile phone with you, in case of emergency
  • Make sure you book your ride from a reputable company with an assured safety record and qualified riders
