Germany's Lubeck ''well worth a visit''

07 September 2010

Holidaymakers exploring Germany may enjoy a trip to the town of Lubeck, it has been claimed.

The town, which lies just 50 miles from the popular city of Hamburg, has a lot to offer travellers, according to Lubeck Travemunde Marketing.

Spokeswoman Jyte Kuhe explained that it is known as the birthplace of marzipan and offers history fans a plethora of attractions, despite its small size.

Just 250,000 people live in Lubeck, but the historical attractions are numerous and include the famous Holsten Gate.

"It is a Unesco World Heritage [site] so it is very historic and it has an historic city centre with nice alleyways and courtyards," Ms Kuhe said.

Brits flying home from Germany may be affected by the country's recent decision to add aviation tax of €25 (£20.83).

ABTA - The Travel Association has called for the government to outline whether it plans to drop the charge in 2012.
