Caravans are a green way to travel.
Owning a caravan ideal for green travel
31 August 2010British holidaymakers looking for a way to take environmentally-friendly vacations have been encouraged to consider buying a caravan.
CaravanTimes.co.uk editor Marcus Dubois explained that buying a mobile home should be considered a lifestyle choice and a statement of intent.
Talking ahead of the Caravan Extravaganza event in Yorkshire this weekend (September 4th and 5th), the expert noted that travelling in a caravan is one of the greenest ways to enjoy a trip away.
"We recently looked at research from Lancaster University which found an overnight stay by two guests in a touring caravan produces around 4kg of carbon dioxide," Mr Dubois said.
"This was compared with almost 500kg of carbon dioxide for a return flight to Spain."
As well as helping the environment, owning a caravan is a great way to encourage the family to head off on adventures, he added.
Recent research published by the AA showed that many holidaymakers may have attempted to avoid motorways during the bank holiday weekend, with Brits driving a total of more than 600 million miles to avoid them.
