Holidaymakers looking outside Europe for value for money

Holidaymakers looking outside Europe for value for money

01 March 2010

The opportunity to get more for their money than 12 months ago is leading to rising numbers of holidaymakers looking to alternate destinations for their breaks.

Destinations including Dubai, Egypt and Thailand are becoming more popular with holidaymakers as the pound continues to show weakness against the euro, research from Hayes and Jarvis has revealed.

Commercial director at the holiday company Niel Alobaidi has highlighted that the better value for money currently on offer to holidaymakers is a driving force behind the decision to look further afield.

He said: "This could be the year when a long-haul holiday can finally prove cheaper than a European trip.

"2010 could be when holidaymakers who have traditionally booked three-star accommodation can now have a five-star experience for the same price – or even less."

Meanwhile, Mr Alobaidi added that in terms of year-on-year figures, bookings to Dubai were up 70 per cent.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, model Neil McAndrew remarked that Dubai was a fabulous place to holiday because of its fantastic hotels and ability to allow people to completely relax.
