Lost luggage the biggest fear for holidaymakers
02 March 2010Discovering that their luggage has gone missing is the biggest fear among holidaymakers when heading abroad, according to research.
The Daily Telegraph reports on a study commissioned by Bupa Travel showing that 46 per cent of travellers are concerned that they will not be reunited with their luggage when reaching a destination.
Meanwhile, 44 per cent expressed anxiety about specifically losing their wallets and purses.
However, Tariq Siddiqi, general manager of Bupa Travel, was surprised that more people were not worried about falling ill abroad as this can be far more expensive than replacing lost luggage, particularly if worldwide travel insurance is not taken out.
He said: "It''s shocking that people are more worried about their possessions rather than their health when on holiday. Most people say that their health is the most important thing so I would expect to see it at the top of the list by a long way.
"Falling ill or being injured abroad is a common occurrence and can be very scary, so its vital that people ensure that they have adequate protection should the worst happen."
One step that holidaymakers can take to reduce the chances of falling ill abroad is to avoid drinking local water and instead opt for bottled drinks from a supermarket.
