'Suspicious Package' At Edinburgh Airport

Suspicious Package Closes Edinburgh Airport

18 March 2011

Edinburgh Airport was closed this morning following what officials called an "ongoing incident". Airport commuters were asked to leave the terminal at around 11:20am. Police and fire crews subsequently proceeded to investigate what was described as a "suspicious package".

Passengers due to fly were advised not to travel to the airport because some roads leading to the terminal had been closed. The airport building was also cordoned off. The airport management initially announced that the airport would be closed until 3pm.

At around 12:30pm passengers were allowed back into the building, after the army bomb squad confirmed that it was a false alarm. Shortly afterwards vehicles were also allowed entry to the airport grounds.

After the terminal reopened, the airport released a statement on its website saying, "Our incident has been stood down. We are now re-opening the terminal. Thank you for your patience."
