60000 holidaymakers affected by Holidays 4U collapse

Holidays 4 UK Collapse Affects Thousands of Holidaymakers

4 August 2011

Holidays 4 UK, who also traded as Aegean Flights, announced the collapse of their company on 3 August. The news of the company's administration has left 60000 holidaymakers affected, with over 12000 of its customers currently holidaying abroad for the summer.

PWC, who are responsible for administering the now-defunct company, disclosed that the company had succumbed to pressures facing the travel industry in the past two years. Those who have booked packaged deals with the operator fall under the Air Travel Organisers Licensing scheme (ATOL) and will thus be reimbursed. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) announced that they will be assisting customers attempting to return home from Turkey but warned that passengers may not arrive at their allocated airports. Holiday 4 UK clients who purchased packages and have not left for their scheduled trips may also be reimbursed under the ATOL scheme. Unfortunately, the Holidays 4 UK ATOL scheme does not provide cover for those who have booked flight -only deals.

For holidaymakers who have booked with travel agents, it is advisable to inquire with them on how you have been affected. Those already holidaying in Turkey have been told to continue their holidays as usual. The CAA have urged worried passengers that they have "a wealth of experience in dealing with these sorts of situations and are putting systems in place to get people home".
