Heathrow Terminal 5 Bomb Threat
Heathrow Terminal 5 Bomb Threat
10 March 2011A man was arrested at Heathrow Terminal 5 at around 12.50pm, after he allegedly threatened to blow himself up. The terminal was partially closed for about an hour but has since reopened to passengers.
Authorities say that the man - a British man in his 30s - was carrying a bag that he claimed contained a bomb. Following a standoff with armed police, the bag was confiscated and later cleared, apparently containing nothing suspicious.
At the time, the departures area of the terminal was partially evacuated and closed while the airport police dealt with the "security alert".
The man has since been taken into custody and flights continue to operate as normal.
A spokesman for Heathrow operator BAA said, "The police incident that caused the partial evacuation of Terminal 5 has been stood down. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused to passengers while police attended this incident".
