Flooding - Many rivers in Central America have broken their banks, leading to the evacuation of thousands.

Mudslides Caused By Torrential Rain In El Salvador

A tropical depression which swept into El Salvador from the Pacific has caused major mudslides after torrential down pours. Thousands of people have evacuated their homes in Central and South America.

The death toll stands at 81. The torrential rain is persisting through Central America, and is affecting the following countries:

Guatemala

Nicaraqua

Costa Rica

Pouring rain from the tropical depression has also affected south-eastern Mexico, particularly Tabasco state. Rivers have swollen and flooded from the continuing rain leaving thousands homeless.

Travellers to Central America are urged to exercise caution, especially as this part of the world is a popular destination for hikers and other eco-tourists.
