BA has suspended flights to Haneda Airport until further notice

British Airways Suspends Service To Japan's Haneda Airport

19 April 2011

Following a lack of demand for flights to Japan's Haneda Airport in Tokyo, British Airways has decided to suspend their service while keeping the situation open to review.

They have not stopped their daily service to Narita Airport.

In the wake of the earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Japan last month, the Foreign and Commonwealth office is still reviewing the situation daily and today issued a statement that they are decreasing their safety perimeter of 80km around the Fukushima nuclear facility, to a 60km perimeter.

Other reports from The Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE), have also acknowledged an improvement in the nuclear situation in Japan. For these reasons, the British embassy will no longer distribute iodine tablets, as the radiation levels in Japan are no longer deemed hazardous to immediate human health.
