Up To a Quarter of Festival Goers May Be Leaving Themselves Vulnerable

ABTA’s recent figures announcing that 24% of travellers don’t bother with travel insurance, mean that of festival goers travelling to Europe this summer are leaving both their belongings and their money at risk, says online travel insurance provider, Essential Travel.

Illness or medical emergencies in the EU should be covered by the EHIC card. However, Spain has recently come under attack for failing to honour the agreement, and telling holiday makers to use their travel insurance to get private medical care instead. Meanwhile, when it comes to some of the EU’s poorer countries (Romania, Ukraine, Albania for instance), travel insurance may mean the difference between just being treated somewhere that provides basic medical care, and being looked after in a hygienic modern hospital.

“Travel insurance may be the last thing on your mind when you’re packing, but if you’re off to a festival, things can go wrong. Public transport can get delayed, people have accidents (especially at festivals where moshing and body surfing are commonplace) and things do get lost or stolen*,” says Nina Montgomery, Essential Travel’s expert on Travel Insurance.

“Whether it’s your new summer wardrobe, or the high spec camera you’ve invested in to take pics of you and all your friends, travel insurance will help cover the cost of replacement if they get lost or stolen,” says Nina Montgomery.
