Dear Essential Travel
I have noticed that there is something called a park mark offered with most of your airport parking. It doesn't seem to change the cost of parking which begs me to ask the questions: what is a park mark and why should I choose to park my car in a car park that has one?
Andy Toulson, Surrey
The Park Mark is an award given to those airport car parks that actively participate in the Safer Parking Scheme. The initiative aims to create a safer parking environment. It was created by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) and is managed by the British Parking Association. The car parks that are awarded the Park Mark have met the ACPO's requirements set out in the Safer Parking Scheme.
Not only do Park Mark-awarded car parks strive to reduce crime, they also want to ensure that you feel safe. They do this by making use of:
- CCTV surveillance
- Specialised lighting
- Regular patrols
- Employing staff who have been trained to deal with emergency situations
Encouraging these precautions have had a real impact. According to the 2009/2010 British Crime survey, there has been a 10% drop in car-related crime since the introduction of the Park Mark. While these are excellent reasons to make use of car parks with the award, don’t feel limited to them.
All of our airport parking has been vetted by us for their safety, as we aim to offer only the safest options for you and your vehicle.
We hope this has helped. Happy travelling!
