A friend and I have decided to take a break from work and go mountaineering on the Barn Wall Route in Glencoe. I’ve heard of people getting injured and needing to be airlifted. Does my Essential Travel insurance policy include helicopter cover for mountaineering? Will Johnston, Leeds

Given that the Barn Wall Route is listed as an easy to moderate climb, the risk of such a serious injury should not be too high. That said, when climbing and mountaineering any route or environment can prove dangerous in the wrong conditions or if you lack experience. It always pays to go with a guide or an experienced friend if you are new to either the route or the activity.
Having said that, we are pleased to let you know that your policy certainly covers you should you need to be airlifted. Your mountaineering travel insurance policy will also cover all emergency medical, surgical, hospital, ambulance and nursing fees outside your home area.
