Doncaster/Sheffield - Robin Hood Airport (SZD) information

Introduction

This new airport, which opened in mid-2005, already serves 33 scheduled international destinations in 20 countries throughout Europe and the Mediterranean. Holiday charter flights also connect with Florida, Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Annual capacity of the airport is 3 million passengers. The airport is situated about 12kms southeast of Doncaster, and 35kms east of Sheffield.

A car park adjacent to the terminal can accommodate 2,500 cars, and is monitored by security 24 hours a day. A passenger drop-off area is also available in front of the terminal building. Fees are £1.50 for the first 30 minutes, or £2.50 for the first hour. After that, rates gradually decline up to a daily rate of £14. The weekly rate is £45.

Getting to and from Doncaster/Sheffield

The airport is just off the A614 and A638 roadways, with easy access to the UK's network of major motorways including the M18 which runs towards Sheffield, and the A1 (London to Edinburgh). By car, Doncaster is a 15-minute drive, and Sheffield 30 minutes. The airport is well served by local bus links. The Airport Arrow shuttle connects with Doncaster railway station (a 25-minute journey) from where rail connections are available to all parts of the UK. Little Arrow taxis are also available for hire from a taxi rank located just outside the terminal's arrivals hall.

Planned facilities in phase two of the airport's development include a wide range of retail outlets, restaurants, bars and cafés, and an executive lounge. Meanwhile, amenities include a convenience store and a coffee shop on the ground floor in the landside arrivals area, and a coffee shop and a bar in the departures lounge.
