Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LPL) Information
Introduction
Liverpool International Airport is fast becoming one of the UK's major transport hubs, and is currently undergoing a vast expansion programme to cope with the steady influx of passengers. The past few years have seen over 1.5 million passengers coming through the airport annually, and numbers look set to rise in the future. At present, the airport has just one passenger terminal serving all flights, with check-in, ticket sales and reservation desks located in the centre of the main concourse.
Airport Parking at Liverpool
A pick-up and drop-off area is located close to the terminal building, as well as both short- and long-term parking lots. Booking parking ahead of time is recommended, especially in the high season.
Getting to and from Liverpool
The airport is situated southeast of Liverpool city, next to the River Mersey. If driving from the city centre, take the A561 towards Runcorn and follow signs to the airport. From the M56, cross over the river at Runcorn on the A557, and continue to the airport on A561. If driving from Warrington, take the A road to Widnes, turn on to the A561, then on to Speke Hall avenue and follow the airport signs.
The closest train station can be found at nearby Garston, which is easily accessible from the airport by taxi or the Arriva bus 80A. Trains travel regularly from Garston to Liverpool Central station, and Liverpool Lime street station provides transportation to destinations across the UK.
Arriva bus 80A (and bus 108 on Sundays) connects the airport with Garston station, Allerton, Mossley Hill, Toxteth and Liverpool city centre.The National Express coach service departs from Liverpool coach station and provides transportation to a wide range of UK destinations.
Amenities at Liverpool John Lennon Airport
A Thomas Cook bureau de change is located in the airport terminal and offers a wide range of foreign currency exchange services. A children's play area is also located within the terminal building.
A plethora of shops and refreshment facilities are scattered throughout the terminal, with the new boardwalk shopping area selling all manner of goods from clothing to chocolates and more. Other shops include a lingerie store, a gift shop and a newsagent. Once through customs, additional shopping opportunities are available in the duty-free shopping area and WH Smiths.An airside bar and restaurant can be found alongside the duty-free shopping area, and additional eateries, including Burger King, Aintree Food Village and the Estuary Bar can be found on the third floor.
Disabled passengers are well-catered for, with Liverpool Airport meeting EU standard for provision for disabled persons. An information desk is positioned on the ground floor of the main concourse area, and handles queries relating to flights, general transport, lost property and left luggage.
