Tenerife: Things To Do
You may think Tenerife is all about sunbathing, sunbathing and more sunbathing, but there's more to this sunny, sandy destination than meets the eye. See below for the lowdown on Tenerife's top activities...
Climb Teide
Pronounced 'Tay-dee', this dormant volcano is the highest peak in Spanish territory. Offering magnificent views of the island and a full day's worth of exercise, the climb is the ideal excursion for active holiday makers. See here for more information.
Surfing and Kiteboarding
Tenerife is great for surfing and kiteboarding all year round. The quality of its waves (the average swell is about one metre), warmth of the water and the island's winds all ensure that the line up is one of the most crowded in Spain. Still, if the area is good enough to host international competitions, it's worth battling for a spot.
Fishing
Tenerife is an angler's dream destination. Home to the most exotic game fish, like Blue Marlin, Dorado, Wahoo, Blue Fin, Yellow Fin and Barracuda, you'll be treated to the fishing experience of a lifetime. Many hotels offer in-house charters, otherwise you can arrange a private charter through a number of companies around Tenerife.
Scuba Diving and Snorkeling
If you fancy swimming with the fish (rather than catching them) Tenerife's diving terrain is also a dream. There are reefs and wrecks around the island as well as shallow dives with the mysterious sting rays and a 40 metre decent into Ali Baba's caves.
Golf
There are several world class golf courses in Tenerife. Many hotels offer golfing packages for tourists looking to play around the island and green fees and club rentals are fairly inexpensive. Whether you are there specifically to play golf, or to spend a day out of the water, you will not be disappointed by the courses in Tenerife.
