Rome Leonardo da Vinci (Fiumicino) International Airport (FCO) Information

Introduction

Known locally as Fiumicino, this is Rome's main airport and is situated 26kms southwest of the city. (Rome's other, much smaller, airport is Ciampino.) Leonardo da Vinci Airport serves more than 26 million passengers per year, and more than 100 airlines, in three terminals all housed beneath one enormous roof. Domestic flights operate out of Terminal A; Terminal B handles both domestic and international flights; and Terminal C serves international flights exclusively.

A multi-storey car park opposite the terminals contains 3,700 spaces. Rates are €2.50 for the first hour; €4.50 for 2 hours; €10 for 6 hours; and €24 per day. The long-term car park, with more than 4,000 spaces, is linked to the terminals by free shuttle bus. Rates are €18 per day, €8 from the fifth day on. Very limited short-term parking can be found near Terminals A and B: €1 for 30 minutes, €2.50 for 1 hour and €3 for each subsequent hour.

Getting to and from Rome Leonardo da Vinci (Fiumicino) International Airport

Driving time to central Rome is 45 minutes via the Autostrada that runs directly from the airport. An easy and economical way of getting into Rome is by the Leonardo Express train, which departs twice hourly to and from the airport. The journey time is 35 minutes; tickets cost €9.50. Regular bus service is available to Rome's Termini Station, leaving from outside the terminals' arrivals halls approximately every 2 hours. The one-way fare is €9. Night buses also run to Rome's Tiburtina Station for €5. Taxis are available but can be quite expensive (as much as €60).

All three terminals offer a full range of facilities, including ATMs, banks and currency exchange booths. A vast array of shops and dining spots can be found throughout the airport, including for example in Terminal C (international): four restaurants (two self-service); three caf�©s; a bar, a pub and a wine bar; two newsagents/tobacconists and a bookstore; two duty-free shops; and shops selling jewellery, electronics, shoes, sportswear, chocolates, eyewear, and fashions including Gucci, Armani, Valentino and Hermes. An Executive Centre on the third floor of Terminal A provides business travellers with telecommunications and conferencing requirements.
