Kerry Airport (KIR) Information
Introduction
Kerry Airport is located 18kms north of Killarney and 19kms southeast of Tralee, near the town of Farranfore in southwest Ireland. This small airport handles about 200,000 passengers per year. The terminal has five check-in desks and two gates. In addition to daily flights to Dublin and London, there is regularly scheduled service to Frankfurt. Charters also travel to such vacations spots as the Canary Islands.
Airport parking at Kerry
A car park containing spaces for 400 vehicles is situated across from the terminal. Rates are €1 for the first 3 hours, or €5 per day. Long-term parking is an option as well, for a charge of €25 per week.
Getting to and from Kerry
The airport is just off the national route N23, which offers easy access by car to all parts of the south and west of Ireland. Killarney is a 15-minute drive south via the N22, while Tralee is 20 minutes northwest by way of the N22 and N21 roadways. Farther afield are the cities of Limerick and Cork, each about one and a half hours driving time from Kerry Airport. Although the airport is not served by either a direct rail or bus route, there is shuttle bus service available. The shuttle bus operates from the airport to Killarney, with transfers in Farranfore for Tralee and Dingle. The fare to Farranfore is €2; to Killarney, €6. There is also a taxi rank for licensed cabs directly outside the terminal.
Amenities at Kerry Airport
Essential facilities consist of an ATM, and a currency exchange bureau located at the information desk in the main concourse. A gift shop in the departures lounge sells a variety of souvenirs and travel-related items, and there is a restaurant and bar which offer a range of light meals, drinks and snacks.
