Antigua Hotels
Antigua has a good range of accommodation, from exclusive five-star resorts to simple guesthouses; there are rooms for every budget. Having said that, some of the hotels and resorts are over-priced, so take your time when making a booking and look at the various options.
Many of the all-inclusive hotels have a minimum-stay requirement. You may want to consider booking a package if your hotel sounds expensive. Another thing to keep in mind is that hotels adds a government tax of 8.5 per cent to the bill and most add a service charge of 10 per cent. Always ask to see what is included in the price.
During the low season, prices can be considerably cheaper and bargaining can produce some good results. Some hotels are closed during the low season and smaller places may shut down early if business isn't good. Air-conditioning is common in the top hotels, but is not always offered at the lower end establishments.
Where to stay?
Most visitors stay on the northwest coast, where there is a good choice of accommodation, dramatic scenery and decent beaches. The options are less extensive on the more isolated east coast and around Falmouth and English Harbour. Those interested in the islands history will prefer this area, but there are few good beaches here. There are however, some reasonable places to stay including some good guesthouses.
There are also many hotels along the island's western coast in the area of Dickenson Bay. If a good beach is essential to you and you're not interested in venturing too far, then consider one of the exclusive resorts on the southern coast.
