Transportation to Prague
About 12 miles northwest of Pragues centre youll find Ruzyne International Airport. Theairport receives flights from over 100 international destinations. Hlavn Ndra is Pragues main railway station. The railway network in the Czech Republic is among the best Europe has to offer.
The principal routes into the city of Prague are the D1/D2 motorways. If you are driving from Belgium you need drive along the E40 to Cologne, the E31 to Heidelberg and then take the E50 to Prague. If you are approaching from Paris, the E50 runs right to the city, while coming from Berlin the E55 will lead to Prague. Bus services departing from either Florenc Station or the coach park at elivskho Station, connect Prague with several main European cities including London, Warsaw, Vienna, and Munich.
What to see
The centerpiece of this wonderful city is Prague Castle. Arguably it is the world's largest castle. The vast Old town square is one of Pragues best known and has hardly hasnt changed in 1,000 years. Facing the square is the Old Town Hall, which features the renowned 600 year old Astronomical Clock. Kinsky Palace and the Powder Tower are also situated there.
The Basilica of Saint George is another star attraction. The basilicas red, Romanesque faade stands out brightlyagainst the surroundings. Next door you will find the Benedictine Convent, where lovers of art can admire Bohemian art displayed in the National Gallery. Another must-see is the atmospheric Old Town situated on the other side of the Charles Bridge.
Day trips
Beyond Prague lies Bohemias countryside boasting picturesque villages and ancient castles, offering respite from the many tourists. Kutna Hora has a wonderfull colourful square and medieval alleyways. The place is a World Heritage site, much of the townbeing created under King Wenceslas II's guidance. The Cathedral of Santa Barbara is of similar beautyto Prague's St Vitus. This most photogenic castle can be reached in less than 45 minutes by train. Karlstejn castle boasts a jaw-dropping audience hall and imperial bedroom, Marian tower and an abundantly decorated Chapel of the Holy Cross.
Activities and leisure
The State Opera and National Theatre offer an excellent cultural scene and jazz jaunts can be found in every part of the city, with the Reduta Jazz Club having the reputation as the cream of the crop featuring live performances every night. The top attractions are all within walking distance and strolling around the streets of Prague can be a delightful experience and a pleasant exercise at the same time.
