Leisure Options In Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik is not famous for any sport in particular, nor does it have a reputation as being the kind of place you specifically head for if you are looking for a sporting holiday. You will find various sporting events in the city's calendar if you are hoping to do a little spectating, while if you prefer to get more active then the sea provides plenty of water sport options.

Spectator sports

Spectator sports in Dubrovnik are seasonal affairs and you may have to plan your visit at a specific time if you wish to enjoy viewing some sporting events. If you visit during September, for example, you can catch the Cro Challenge, which is a competition that sees teams of locals take on the combined disciplines of kayaking, running, rope climbing, swimming and diving. Water Polo is also a highly popular sport in Dubrovnik and if you ask around when you arrive, you should be able to find out if there are any important matches being played during your stay.

Participant sports

Dubrovnik's proximity to the ocean gives residents and visitors the chance to participate in a variety of water sports which include surfing, sailing, diving and rowing. You needn't have any of your own equipment to take part in these activities, as companies based at the beaches have everything you need for hire at quite reasonable prices. On land, you can choose between activities such as mountain biking, hiking and mountaineering as well as hunting and fishing/

Dubrovnik also has a good selection of fitness centres for those visitors who fancy a work out. Fitness centres can also be found at some of the city's more expensive hotels and offer free facilities for guests.
