Entertainment In Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik isn't really the place to head for if you are a night owl and prefer the pleasures of the evening over those of the day. That's not to say that the city has no evening venues to offer, just that it isn't geared towards the young and hedonistic crowds that you might find at many of Europe's most popular holiday resorts.
Nightlife
You can easily have a very pleasant evening having a late and leisurely dinner at one of the city's many restaurants if you aren't feeling too adventurous, while you'll find plenty of bars around the Stradun area, many of them outdoor affairs where you can sit and people-watch over a few locally brewed beers. If it's a late night that you are looking for then seek out nightclubs such as Exodus on Ivana Dulcica 39 and Night Club & Cocktail Bar Revelin and Labirint Night Club on Ulica Sv. Dominika bb in the Old City.
Theatre and music
Theatre venues are decidedly absent from Dubrovnik, but if you are a fan of live music then during the summer, you'll often find venues hosting nights of klapa music, which is a traditional musical genre loved greatly by the locals. If it's something a bit more up tempo that you are looking for then Trubadur on Buniceva 2 is a jazz club that features different live acts every night and is an ideal place for dancing or toe-tapping.
Festivals
There are a number of annual summer festivals that are unique to the city, with highlights including:
- Carnival time in Dubrovnik begins in the period leading up to the Christian observance of Lent and sees local residents enjoy a variety of events aimed at self indulgence before the period of abstinence begins (March).
- The Dubrovnik Summer Festival sees the city devote several weeks to a variety of festivities, celebrations and performances including theatre, concerts, opera and dance. Open-air stages across the city are the venues for exciting events (August).
- The Dubrovnik International Film Festival has been held since 2003 and is a chance for locals and visitors alike to enjoy the best of independent cinema from Croatia and around the world (October).
