Be Safe in St Johns

If you are driving in St Johns or the province of Newfoundland, it is important to remember some safety points.

Good clear weather is not guaranteed, particularly along the coastline, and fog is not uncommon. It is no exaggeration that moose on the highway can be a problem when driving, particularly if you happen to be on the roads around dawn or dusk. Signage along the provinces roads has also been criticised by both visitors and locals.

Take normal safety procedures when going out; however, take some comfort from the fact that St Johns has one of lowest crime rates in the country.

The citys three main hospitals are the General Hospital at Prince Philip parkway, St Clares Mercy Hospital on Le Marchant Road and Janeway Child Health Centre at Janeway Place. St Johns also has plenty of clinics and pharmacies.

Travel insurance

Canada does not pay for hospital or medical services for visitors. Make sure you have health insurance to pay for your medical costs before you leave for Canada.
