Things to do in Niagara
Best known for the falls, Niagara is rich in many natural wonders that attract tourists from all over the world. Nature lovers will particularly love Niagara, as they can observe many fascinating creatures in their natural habitat. Niagara also offers a couple of fun museums for the children and adventure on a heart-stopping boat ride along the Niagara River.
Niagara Falls
This is the major attraction in Niagara, comprising of three separate waterfalls: Horseshoe Falls (or the Canadian Falls), the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls, with a location on the Niagara River in eastern North America, on the border between the United States and Canada.
Famous for its spectacular beauty, the Niagara Falls is best viewed from the Skylon Tower or the Konica Minolta Tower which give magnificent views of the falls. One of the worlds wonders. The Niagara Falls is also a great source of hydro-electric power.
If you have time, take a tour on the Maid of the Mist steamboat that will take you to the front of the American Falls, Rock of the Ages, Cave of Winds and enter Horseshoe Falls, where you can feel the mist spray your face and hear the powerful sound of water. Cover up your camera if you dont want it to get wet. Raincoats and hoods are provided.
Niagara Falls Bird Aviary
Visit this large tropical rainforest, where you can see more than 400 birds of various species flying around freely. Niagara Falls Bird Aviary is a popular destination among tourists who want to observe the fascinating wildlife. Spend some quality time with your family and be prepared for an exciting journey back to the time when a legendary kingdom still existed. You can also watch birds from all over the world up close in their natural habitat and feed them from your hands.
Niagara Botanical Gardens
Located nine kilometres north of the falls, along the Niagara parkway, these gardens are easily accessible. Breathtakingly beautiful, the gardens were established in 1936 and they double up as a residential school for training horticultural students. The gardens are divided into the herb garden, vegetable garden, rose garden and the splendid arboretum, which embraces Canadas finest trees and shrubs. Bring your camera along.
Butterfly Conservatory
Watch butterflies fluttering gracefully in exotic greenery at the Butterfly Conservatory, located nine kilometres north of the falls, in the heart of the Niagara Botanical Gardens. Home to a variety of butterfly species, the conservatory offers a 180 metre path, where you can walk and observe butterflies feeding and sipping nectar from colourful, sweet-smelling flowers.
