There is an incredibly wide variety of accommodation to choose from throughout Rio de Janeiro, with lodgings ranging from high-class hotels to budget guesthouses.
Where to stay
If you are travelling on a budget, it is cheaper to stay in Copacabana, where you will find plenty of reasonably priced guesthouses. If you are travelling in a group of three or four, then it is also possible to rent an apartment. These can be found in the city centre and by the beach and are good value for money.
If you are looking for somewhere slightly more upmarket, the Ipanema area is full of very good hotels. Throughout peak season, from December to February, Rio gets very busy and it is advisable to book your hotel in advance to avoid disappointment.
Well-known hotel chains are located throughout Rio and include the Sheraton, the Intercontinental and Le Meridien.
