Brussels Transport
Brussels has a well-integrated system of public transportation across the city, with a good network of metro, bus and train services. There is also an extensive tram system, which complements both the train and bus networks. Many areas of the city are suitable for exploring on foot, foregoing the need to use public transportation except when moving between city districts.
By Metro
Brussels' Metro system serves a string of underground stations between Brussels Midi and Brussels Nord train stations. The Metro system is extremely easy to use and navigate and many of the stations are convenient in relation to popular tourist destinations.
By Train
There are frequent above-ground train services operating from the Midi, Central and North stations, with a combination of express and local trains providing fast access to many areas around the city.
By Bus
Local bus routes are operated by De Lijn and bus travel is very cheap and convenient, especially when travelling to areas not served by the train or Metro system. Day and week passes are available and are valid for all destinations in the Flanders region, which are extremely good value for those wanting to go on daytrips outside of Brussels during their stay.
Taxis
Brussels has plenty of well marked taxi stands spread around the city, but as in other Belgian cities, you will be hard pressed to hail one passing by, as taxis rarely roam the streets looking for a fare. It's best to book a taxi ahead of schedule and have it pick you up outside your lodgings, restaurant or location.
