Weather In Antwerp

Throughout most of the year, Antwerp has quite changeable weather. Periods of bright sunshine are often interrupted by rain showers, resulting in very mild summers with cool springs and autumns. The port city is often on the receiving end of freezing winds that whip across the Baltic Sea, meaning that winters can be very cold at times.

Summer

With average temperatures around 16°C, summers in Antwerp are usually very pleasant. The climate is similar to that of the UK, with wet days accounting for half a given month. However, when the sun shines, the city sparkles and the twilight lasts for hours. The range of summer events makes this one of the favourite times for tourists to visit. The city is not so busy commercially in July and August, when most Belgians take holidays and head to the Mediterranean, resulting in good deals on accommodation.

Winter

Winters can be severe in Antwerp, with the Baltic wind-chill dropping temperatures well below freezing. For some however, this is a magical time to visit, when the city is covered in fresh snow and you can ice-skate in a plaza surrounded by buildings of another age.

Spring and autumn

Temperatures during spring and autumn are quite cool, with some nights reaching 0°C. The weather at this time of year is also the most unstable, making it difficult to predict which weeks or weekends it will be sunny. Be sure to pack plenty of extra warm clothes if you plan to visit at this time, just in case the mercury takes a dive.
