Be Safe in Newcastle

A valid driving licence is required to hire a car at Australia for a period of less than six months. Driving in Australia for more than six months requires an International Driving Permit. It is very easy to drive in Australia, as the roads are well maintained and most drivers tend to follow the road rules.

Health

There are no health risks in Newcastle for travellers to worry about. The medical facilities here are excellent. The Australian summers can be quite scorching and travellers are advised to use lots of sun block to avoid over-tanning and to drink lots of water to prevent dehydration.

Safety

Like many other cities, Newcastle has its share of petty crimes, with tourists usually being the target. However, these are few and far between and the most common crimes are wallets being picked and handbags being snatched. It is best to just be sensible and take simple security measures to prevent such incidents from happening; be aware of the surrounding area, do not carry all your valuables at one time, leave your passport at your accommodation and hold on to your belongings at all times.

Travel insurance

It is recommended that all travellers obtain a comprehensive travel policy before leaving home. This will ease the stress on you should unforeseen events occur and give you peace of mind, so you can relax and enjoy the holiday.

Travel insurance policies should cover lost personal belonging, delayed flights, and provide medical benefits. Although the UK and Australia have reciprocal health arrangements, there are many items that are not covered by these policies including extreme sporting activities, which travellers may wish to participate in while on holiday.
