Be Safe in Canberra
There is little violent crime, or crime of any sort, in Canberra, and the roads and levels of healthcare are excellent. You should still make sure that you take basic safety precautions when out and about, and dont forget to take out travel insurance before you leave home.
Health
Like much of Australia, medical facilities in Canberra are excellent and there are many clinics and pharmacies where treatment and drugs are available day and night. If you become sick, head for Canberra Hospital in the Garran district; it has an Accident and Emergency Department. In addition, Capital Medical Centre in the city centre is open on weekdays and offers reasonably priced consultations, while the Travellers' Medical and Vaccination Centre, also in the city centre, offers vaccinations and medical supplies.

Safety
Canberra is one of Australias safest cities, with low crime rates and little pick-pocketing. Tourists should however remain vigilant for pickpockets when in busy areas of the city and around the bus interchanges at Civic, Woden, Tuggeranong and Belconnen at night.
You should make sure that you take out a comprehensive travel insurance policy before arriving here, especially if you intend to partake in any sort of extreme sport including rock climbing, rafting, mountain biking and even bushwalking.
