Brisbane Leisure

With Brisbane's fine weather and seaside setting, leisure options are plentiful. Australia is a sporting nation, and outdoor activities are part of everyday life.

Biking

An extensive network of bicycle paths traverses Brisbane. A key route follows the Bicentennial Bikeway southeast along the Brisbane River, across the Goodwill Bridge, and then along to South Bank Parklands or the Kangaroo Point cliffs. Brisbane's Bicycle Guide, detailing more than 400kms of cycling paths, is available from the Brisbane City Council.

Surfing

Surfing is a national pastime in Australia. If the surf is up, grab a board - be it a boogey board or full blown surf board - and go surfing. The Gold Coast is well-known for its good surfing conditions. If you don't like ‘real' surfboards, try your hand at body surfing. It's just as exciting and you don't need to rent a board to have fun.

Bridge Climbing

Brisbane's Story Bridge, built in 1940, offers climbs to its top for those over 130cms tall. The Story Bridge Adventure Climb peaks at a viewing platform on top of the bridge, 44 metres above the roadway and 80 metres above the Brisbane River. This is only the third bridge climb in the world (after Sydney's and Auckland's), so don't miss this opportunity. Magnificent 360-degree views of the city, river and Moreton Bay and its islands reward those who make the climb.

Dolphin Feeding

Moreton Island at the Tangalooma Wild Dolphin Resort offers visitors the opportunity to feed real, wild dolphins. They come into the shallows by their own volition to interact with people and take a few fish from visitors' hands. The Tangalooma Dolphin Care Programme has been developed to make sure that people feeding the dolphins do not cause any harm to the animals.
