Things to do in Adelaide
Adelaide is an easy city to walk around, with many of the top attractions situated close to one another. If you fancy getting away from the city centre, you can head to one of Adelaide's many parks, Botanic Gardens or take a trip along the River Torrens. Some of Adelaide's museums are among the best in the country, and the churches are simply stunning.
Old Adelaide Gaol
This can be found in the city centre and dates back to 1878. It was decommissioned in 1988, and now serves as a popular tourist attraction. The gaol houses a hanging tower, an observation tower and a large bell, which was cast in 1857. Other attractions include an education centre and of course, the infamous cells. Ayers Historic House
This grand mansion is a very important landmark mansion in central Adelaide. It dates back to the mid-19th century and offers visitors the chance to view some impressive Regency architecture as well as its intricately decorated interior and the numerous portraits and pictures hanging on the walls. Beehive Corner Building
This 100-year-old construction is one of Adelaide's most unusual buildings. It can be found in the city centre and is a striking neo-Gothic structure. There are many unique features that delight visitors and it makes for an excellent photograph.
St Peter's Cathedral
This wonderful building can be found in the North Adelaide area and was built between 1869 and 1901 in a neo-Gothic style. It has a very tall cathedral spire and a vast interior, which is filled with stone carvings and houses impressive stained-glass windows depicting historical events in South Australia. You might also like to view the lantern tower and the stunning marble Christening font, which dates back to 1877.
