What's on this weekend... August Bank Holiday

There's plenty going on in the UK this August bank holiday from carnivals to breaking the world record for mass moonwalking. See below for the highlights.

Notting Hill Carnival (Aug 30 and 31)
Get your sequin bikini at the ready - the annual west London festival is back! The free festival's Caribbean roots are still evident, mixed into a range of parade bands, costumed dancers, soundsystems, food stalls and plenty of rum.

Festibelly (Aug 29)
The New Forest in Hampshire gets musical on Saturday as Lymington hosts Festibelly. There's only 1000 tickets on sale for an intimate audience with James Yuill, Micachu and the Shapes and The Laurel Collective among others. Tickets are £25 each and, amazingly, there are still some left.

Thriller Dance Flashmob (Aug 29)
It's time to stop practicing your moonwalk, and unleash it on the world. Join more than 1,500 Micheal Jackson wannabes in Trafalgar Square and attempt to break the world record for mass moonwalking! Check the website before you head out as this is an impromptu event. For scheduled events in Trafalgar Square (as part of the One Magic Summer programme, see here: www.london.gov.uk)

Rennington Scarecrow Festival (Aug 29 to 31)
Rennington in Northumberland is hosting this unusual festival. The village promises to be decorated with scarecrows (made by locals) and offers scarecrow themed crafts and games. There's also a sausage sizzle and food stalls.

The National Forest Wood Fair (Aug 31)
You don't have to be a wood work enthusiast to head to Beacon Hill Country Park on bank holiday Monday. As well as live demonstrations and craft displays there's chainsaw sculpting, stories for children, archery, workshops and even a lumberjack show.
