The spirit of the age (or a really cheap night out)

It's possible that, until now, the lure of County Tyrone's Mullaghmoyle Road has largely passed you by - but then that was before it became one of Northern Ireland's hottest attractions. For the new year has seen a rush of visitors to the area - and once, a tail back of some 60 cars! - thanks to a recent (or perhaps not?) arrival on the scene: yes, they've got a ghost.

"If you ask me, it's more likely to be a reflection of the moon on the river that flows through the area," local Sinn Fein Councillor Desmond Donnelly told the BBC. "Although the talk is that what was seen was in the shape of a person."

Probably being a councillor means that you have to talk sensibly about these things but let that not deter us - apparently talk is that it's the shape of a female person! A female person who is believed to have lived locally! And now Mullaghmoyle Road-ghost spotting has got so popular that it's a bit like going to a drive-in movie. And you can see the appeal, can't you? The show might be a bit unreliable, but it's sociable, absorbing and potentially really quite breath-taking - and best of all it's free! If that's not an outing for our times, I don't know what is.
