The (Kenyan) Obama Effect

If you think the Americans are excited about their new president, you want to talk to a Kenyan. First they re-named a beer named after him... then they declared a national holiday in his honour... and now the Kenyan government is hoping for a surge in Obama-inspired tourism.

"We are now contemplating opening the Obama route that will start from Nairobi through the Great Rift Valley and Lake Victoria leading to Kogelo village thus giving clients the chance to visit Obama's father birthplace," said Kenyan tourism minister Najib Balala.

The tourism ministry estimates that American tourism to the country will rise by up to 15%. Bear in mind that only two weeks ago it was announced that profits from tourism had slumped by 30% due to the violence last year - and you can see how the Kenyans might have reason to love Obama.
