Groundhog Day? Not again...

Today, more random attempts to lure in the reluctant tourist: hot on the heels of Australia's antidote-to-divorce advert (see below) comes the Groundhog Duel, a viral campaign from Pennsylvania, USA.

First you need to know that this has nothing to do with the Bill Murray movie (although it is a bit repetitive). Second you need to know the local folklore re the Groundhog, or Marmot. If it comes out of its burrow on Groundhog Day (February 2) and can't see its shadow because the weather is cloudy, winter will soon end, and if it's sunny - and it can see its shadow - winter will continue for another six weeks.

Cut to the campaign: a five-episode saga told in an 80's MTV-style format and starring the Groundhog and his Shadow as local celebrities torn apart by rivalry over a antler-wearing woman and the shallow trappings of fame. There are games too, plus a couple of images that show that Pennsylvania has a pretty beach and a copy of Rodin's The Thinker. Full marks for effort, but would it make me go? No.

Here's episode one:
