Waiting to the last minute to see if you can get a cheap holiday this Easter? Well, the good news is there is some availability left - and it's affordable too. But the real secret to hunting out your bargain Easter break is to do your research - and not to be too fussy about destination and dates. Here are some of the best holiday deals we've found:
LastMinute.com has a broad range of deals, from six-nights' half-board at the Marriott Taba Heights, Red Sea, Egypt, which starts at £399 per person including flights, to three nights in New York including flights and accommodation from £495 per person. There are some cheap(ish) breaks to be found closer to home, too: two nights at the Windward Hotel in Newquay, Cornwall, starts at £192 for two nights B&B, based on two adults sharing.
Monarch is offering four nights, half-board, in the Costa del Sol from £521 per person, or five nights, half- board, in the Costa Blanca from £418 per person, both departing April 9. Freedomdirect is offering seven nights, self-catering, in Majorca from £309 per person, 10 nights, self-catering, in Benidorm from £249 and seven nights, half-board, in Malta from £295.
Finally, this one isn't for Easter but it's worth looking at all the same: EasyJet is cutting 20% off flights to France and Italy between April 15 and July 15 2009 - but you have to book by midnight tomorrow night (Tuesday April 7).
Apologies for sounding like your mum - but... you will need insurance, too. Our Superior Travel Insurance covers you for Scheduled Airline Failure Protection (up to £1,000 per person), Redundancy cover (up to £5,000 per person), Holiday Cancellation (up to £5,000 per person), Medical cover (up to £10 million) and Lost Luggage (up to £1,750). You can find out more here.
If you're not going away this Easter we have more ideas for UK-based family fun here - and remember there is always consolation to be had in this (I mean the chocolate, not the bunny, by the way):
